Tallow Skincare FAQ
Simple answers to the questions we hear about tallow skincare. Ingredients, scent, use, and sourcing should be clear before you choose.
What is tallow skincare?
Tallow is rendered beef fat used as a base in moisturizers. We use suet from cattle raised by our family and render it ourselves in North Carolina.
Is beef tallow good for skin?
A tallow balm can soften dry skin and help slow moisture loss. Your skin and the full formula matter. It is not a proven treatment for a skin condition.
Can I use it on my face?
Choose a product intended for facial use, read its ingredients, and test before wider use. A balm that feels comfortable on someone else may not suit your face.
Does tallow clog pores?
It can contribute to breakouts for some people. Grass fed sourcing does not guarantee that a product will not clog pores. Read our pores and breakouts guide.
Does it treat acne?
No acne-treatment claim is made for our balms. If new bumps or irritation appear, stop and reassess rather than treating it as an expected purge.
Does it treat eczema or psoriasis?
Our balms are cosmetic moisturizers. They do not replace prescribed care. Read about moisture and eczema.
What should sensitive skin consider?
Check fragrance, essential oils, botanicals, and ingredients you already react to. Natural and fragrance free do not mean reaction proof.
Can babies or children use it?
Ask the child’s clinician about the exact formula and intended use. We do not make a blanket all-ages promise. Questions to ask first.
Can tallow replace retinol?
No. Moisturizing dry skin is different from a retinoid treatment. Tallow also does not replace sunscreen.
How do I apply it?
Warm a small amount between clean, dry fingertips, then spread a thin layer on clean skin. Avoid eyes and broken skin. See the application guide.
Can I use it every day?
Use it as a moisturizer when needed and tolerated. Follow the directions on your treatments and sunscreen rather than assuming every combination is suitable.
How much should I use?
Start with a rice grain to pea sized amount for a small facial area, and adjust by feel. If it feels too heavy, use less. Some skin types prefer a lighter moisturizer.
Does it smell like beef?
Natural aroma can be noticeable. Unscented means no added scent, not guaranteed odorless. What to expect from the scent.
How long does a jar last?
We suggest using our tallow balms within 6 months of opening. Mark the opening date, store closed in a cool, dry place and use clean, dry hands or a scoop. Follow any additional instructions for the exact formula.
Why did my balm melt, firm up, or turn grainy?
Temperature can affect a balm’s texture. Texture alone does not prove freshness or safety. Read the storage and texture guide.
Why choose grass fed suet?
It is the source we choose and can trace through our own cattle and rendering. We do not claim that this proves better clinical results.
Is tallow better than shea butter or lotion?
Neither suits everyone. Compare complete ingredients, texture, and personal preferences. Compare the differences.
Which balm is fragrance free?
Naked contains tallow and jojoba with no added fragrance or essential oils. Regular Bareface contains lemongrass essential oil. Read the exact product’s list. Compare Bareface, Naked, and Calma.
Does tallow provide sunscreen protection?
Do not rely on tallow balm for sun protection. Zinc concentration does not establish a finished product’s SPF. Choose sunscreen tested and labeled for that purpose and follow its directions.
Do you offer halal options?
Yes, we offer multiple separately labeled products made with tallow from halal processed cattle. Ingredient sourcing is different from independent certification of a finished cosmetic. Check the exact product and current halal collection.
